I bow in gratitude to the brave who don’t give up yet surrender gracefully to the all-ravaging nature of living a lifetime, composed of finding new losses for every gain.

Without the help of so many walking the line together, invisibly holding my hands, it would have taken me a much longer time to practice how to assimilate the constant ache of needing to comprehend the grief that remains behind the wake of the pain of all the tragedies growing up requires of the tiny mighty self. The further I go, the more it si obvious that compassion is intrinsic to understanding. Only through the integration of letting go, can we grow outside that shell of our self-importance.

We come and go so fast. To you, I dedicate my heartfelt words.

Sincerely,
arya sunyata

I mean this literally and with no sarcasm: you are a real writer and do real work. I’m flattered you read my blog and kind of embarrassed at how much crap I post that you must have seen. -Drew

    1. Arya says:

Your kindness is deeply appreciated. I like your blog, you have a knack for capturing something about the essential brokeness of humanity that speaks to me. I don’t mean that in a depressed way, more like a fine portrayal of your own human condition….there’s something tender and awkward and at the same time classic that I find endearing. keep writing, your poetry is my favorite of your work!

  7. nyelome says:

I think I may start going through your collective works at some point today. Not all at once, i’m not insane – yet. Reading another person’s poetry is always exhausting…

but now that i’ve seen your list of influences…

This is the part where I pick up my chopsticks and drum-roll. I’m starting to wonder what, stylistically are my influences. For the most part I have issues finding my own voice. Paradoxically, i’m able to mimic other writers’ styles with a great deal of accuracy. ( I should figure out how to upload my abandoned expansion of Tolkien’s Silmarillion into novels.)

Downside, i’m like the boat that sits upon the sea of thought between trade winds. Nothing to lift the sails, so when inspiration is fleeting I literally stop writing. The Muse stops talking and even music to me is dead.

Haven’t seen you post anything in a few days, i’ll take that as a hope that thoughts are gestating in your mind. If you’re busy, don’t forget to make time to write!

    1. Arya says:

haha, thanks for not being insane. I have a bit of work in those collections.

I am brewing bits and pieces. I have three pieces in between trade winds, something new also bubbling. Some pieces are just harder to birth than others .. we’ll see what comes out first. Also insanely busy with work, kids, surviving. If poetry is the ash, as Leonard Cohen says, the proof that your life is burning welll… then there’s a poem coming due soon, I burning all kinds. stay tuned…

I cannot say I have been so productive. I am a flightless bird according to Plato – and to my doctor a grounded runner with a stress fracture in his left ankle. I never made it around to looking at ANY of your stuff today -slap on wrist-

There is always the morning that is a few hours away!

Where there is life there is a Poet – or a poet.

Of course there is a very real difference between a Poet and a poet. During those long months of my freshman year at college, I discovered that the difference between being a Poet as opposed to a poet was the difference between being struck by lightning and merely watching a distant, unopposed lightning display.

  8. I love the breathe of your poetry: inspiring and rich!

  11. You are an amazing writer – thank you for coming to my blog and leading me to yours. I love the marriage of modern day and mythology/alchemy/spiritual etc in your work – it is so unique and powerful. Also, you quoted one of my all time favourite Leonard Cohen lines…the song that comes from makes me cry when I sing along with it. I think I will relate to, and thoroughly enjoy, so much of your work. 🙂

    1. Arya says:

We ourselves are the marriage of modern and ancient. This blood in our veins, is it not the exact same substance that flowed through our ancestors, new yet old? I look forward to reading with you. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Leonard is the swizzlestick of my poetic musings… haha.

      1. Leonard Cohen is a god. 🙂 And I agree, we carry our ancestry with us, we are part of what has been as much as we are part of what will be. 🙂

  14. I am sorry – it’s the kid in me; I got given an award and I’d like to pass it on. You have been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award. To see what on earth this is all about have a look at http://mlewisredford.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/versatile-blogger-award/. If you want to accept the award you have to do some stuff to get the badge and the little bit of publicity. If you want to accept the award quietly (then let’s just keep it between ourselves – it is still nonetheless genuinely offered).
